Jamestown, California
Located in California’s Gold Country Region

About Jamestown, CA
The first gold discovered in Tuolumne County was found in Jamestown. This historic town’s other claim to fame is being home to the Railtown 1897 State Historic Park. The park features the workshops, roundhouse, and steam locomotives and cars of the Sierra Railway which arrived in Jamestown in 1897. Steam train rides are available on weekends and during special events.
Today, Jamestown is home to a population of about 2,300 residents, and is a popular antiquing destination with several of the downtown buildings that date back to the 1870s and 1880s, being antique shops. There are plenty of fine restaurants and lodging opportunities to enjoy. Jamestown is also near the Stanislaus National Forest, Yosemite National Park, Lake Tulloch, Don Pedro Lake, and the historic community of Sonora.

Sitting at an elevation of 1,405 feet, Jamestown is located just a few miles south of Sonora, on the Highway 108/49 corridor, and is the first town you encounter entering Tuolumne County from the west. It is less than 30 miles from Oakdale, about 50 miles from Manteca, and around 100 miles from Sacramento
