Type 2 Diabetes finding my Cure

This note was sent to me from a man a have looked up all my life. Now we are in touch again because on FaceBook…The new media for Baby Boomers.

Marty Prue

Jim, My mother was a Type 2 diabetic for the last 25 or 30 years of her life. She lost her eyesight to Diabetic Retinopathy in 1995. She was put on a ton of drugs over the years that caused more side effects and compounded the problem. In 2001 my dad was killed in an auto accident and I brought mom to Texas to live us. Eating raw foods is extremely healthy and will probably go a long way to reducing your blood sugar and you will probably lose a bunch of weight in the process and that could really have a huge impact in itself. My concern is that I have known a lot of folks who just couldn’t stay on “raw plan”. It is pretty time consuming believe it or not and can be very expensive. If you are ready for that big of a lifestyle commitment then go for it and God Speed! With my mom we were able to modify and simplify her diet over a period of time. We also put her on some nutritional supplements that helped her body systems to balance out and start working again. One in particular made a huge difference once she started it. It was not even formulated until May of 2004. She was on about 70 Units on Insulin Daily. About 10units at night and 50 to 60 in the morning.
She started on Transfer Factor GluCoach in June. On August 26th we stopped her Insulin shots completely. They were stepped down through the summer and I monitored her sugars closely. Over the next couple of years she continued to drop weight. Jim, she was a lifelong member of Weight Watchers and only had one real successful loss back in the early 70’s. When she came to live with us she was 5’3″ and weighed 208lbs. By early 2007 she was down to 126lbs without any conscious dieting. She was off of her Blood Pressure and Cholesteral and Arthritis Drugs. The only drug she took was 1 Starlix for diabetes daily. That is usually taken at least 3 times a day to control blood sugar.
Anyway some more food for thought. Sue and I would love to visit with you if you are interested in a less severe lifestyle change… or for whatever! I am glad to see you pursuing your dream again Jim! Good for you! You know what they say about Character Actors? They just become more Characteristic? Well something like that anyway….

Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes. Millions of Americans have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, and many more are unaware they are at high risk. Some groups have a higher risk for developing type 2 diabetes than others. Type 2 diabetes is more common in African AmericansLatinos,Native Americans, and Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders, as well as the aged population.

In type 2 diabetes, either the body does not produce enough insulin or the cells ignore the insulin. Insulin is necessary for the body to be able to use glucose for energy. When you eat food, the body breaks down all of the sugars and starches into glucose, which is the basic fuel for the cells in the body. Insulin takes the sugar from the blood into the cells. When glucose builds up in the blood instead of going into cells, it can lead to diabetes complications.
